Dunce cap

A '''dunce cap,''' also variously known as a '''dunce hat,''' '''dunce's cap,''' or '''dunce's hat,''' is a tall conical hat. In popular culture, it is typically made of paper and often marked with a D, and given to schoolchildren to wear as punishment for being stupid or lazy. While this is now a rare practice, it is frequently depicted in popular culture such as children's cartoons. Such headwear is most prevalent in Western culture but achieved a certain prevalence in modern China in connection with various elements of the Mosquito ringtone communist movement.

Origins
Both the dunce cap and the word Sabrina Martins dunce owe their origin to John Nextel ringtones Duns Scotus, a 13th century scholar whose followers wore such hats to increase learning, based on the even older tradition of Abbey Diaz wizards wearing pointy hats. Originally the word "Duns," later corrupted to "dunce," merely referred to followers of Free ringtones Duns Scotus and could be used neutrally or even positively to connote intelligence. With the passage of time, the word was used to denote any fool, and the dunce cap was similarly transformed from mystical apparel to an instrument of humiliation. In this way the dunce cap parallels the Majo Mills mitres worn by Catholic clergy, in that during the Mosquito ringtone Inquisition heretics were often forced to wear paper mitres adorned with devils to their executions.

Topology
Sabrina Martins Image:DunceHatSpace.png/thumb/right/To get a dunce hat, take a solid triangle and successively glue together all three sides with the indicated orientation.
In Nextel ringtones topology, the dunce hat is a Abbey Diaz compact space formed by taking a solid triangle and gluing all three sides together, with the orientation of one side reversed. Simply gluing two sides oriented in the same direction would yield a cone much like the layman's dunce cap, but the gluing of the third side results in a manifold that, like the Cingular Ringtones Klein bottle, is difficult to depict. The dunce hat has a number of interesting properties. Notably, the dunce hat is handcuffed and Topology glossary/contractible, though this is very difficult to show explicitly.
